After Island hopping from New Zealand to Newfoundland, Kara Lackie and Cory Blundon figured if they were going to hustle on a small island, it may as well be their Island. With Kara’s pastry expertise and Cory’s passion for breakfast plates, Cape Breton’s first Brunch Diner (that makes lots of treats) was born – Selkie's Neighbourhood Diner.

Now a buzzing spot on Charlotte St., this tandem team first introduced our taste buds to their flavourful creations with the Mermaid Food Truck in 2016.

“When we first opened the Mermaid, we started with eggs benny and six cinnamon buns,” says Kara, Co-Owner/Baker, Selkie’s Neighbourhood Diner. “People seemed to like our food, so the next day I made twelve cinnamon buns. I had no idea that I would soon be baking them by the hundreds”.

Although their Charlotte St. Diner now offers an entire menu of delicious specialty items, eggs benny is still their top seller. With a record number of 120 bennies sold in one day, Selkie’s hopes to surpass their record on National Eggs Benny Day – Friday, April 16, 2021.

“The Queen of Eggs Benny, Lil, is mastering some specialty bennies exclusively for the National Holiday,” says Cory, Co-Owner, Selkie’s Neighborhood Diner. “After showing her our recipe once 3-years ago, she has been making the perfect bennies ever since”.

Be sure to celebrate National Eggs Benny Day with Selkie’s Neighbourhood Diner on Friday, April 16! Available for dine-in, take-out, and delivery with CB Eats.
